Getting your alarm system serviced and fully tested on a regular basis is an extremely wise investment because a maintained system is proven to be much more reliable than one which isn't.

Maybe your system used to be maintained regularly every year but, for one reason or another, the maintenance has now lapsed - perhaps because the original installing company is simply not around any more.

Others have an alarm installed and then expect it to run trouble free for the rest of its life. Sure you may "get away with it" for a while but it's a bit like not having your car serviced - you may do lots of  trips to work or the shops without a problem BUT "Murphy's Law" says it will be sure to break down on your way to Heathrow at 3am in the morning ! Similarly it's amazing just how many non-maintained alarm systems seem to know when it's dark and choose to play up causing maximum annoyance to you and your neighbours - there's nothing more frustrating than entering your code and nothing happens !

 Most home insurance policies require that your alarm is maintained by an approved company and some insurers may even offer a discount. They know that if your alarm system is under a maintenance agreement you are much more likely to ring your alarm company straight away if something doesn't seem quite right rather than think "Oh, it might be a big bill - I think I'll wait a few days to see if it rights itself" !  It rarely does and it could be a case of the old proverb "a stitch in time saves nine" because some problems can actually get more expensive if left or worse still your alarm system may not activate correctly when you need it most.   If it's been regularly serviced and maintained then your system should give you many trouble free years of service. The alternative is one that "crys wolf" which critically might be dismissed as "oh it's always going off that one - no doubt another false alarm" when in actual fact the activation is real this time !
